Sustainable Mulching: Living, Green, and Leaf
Support the full life cycle of our native pollinators through 100 % organic gardening and recommending host plant species
Invasive plant removal via manual pulling, composting, and partnering with native plants to outcompete the invasives!
Ask us about our Jewelweed (Impatiens Capensis) project where we are successfully eliminating Japanese stilt-grass in partial shade mesic environments.
Naturalistic Pruning
Pruning for overall health and increased flower / fruit production that allows herbaceous perennials, shrubs, and small trees to express themselves in a natural shape as they grow.
Have your shrubs suffered from poor pruning methods in the past? We can help them recover with our rejuvenating pruning techniques.
We are trained in the proper techniques as to when and how to prune depending on species to keep your plants looking natural, healthy, and artfully shaped.
Sustainable Mulching
Soil is alive! We will keep your soil food web fed with a variety of sustainable mulch types that suppress weeds, increase soil fertility, and create a positive effect on our climate by using plants to pull carbon from the air and store it in the ground!
Living Mulches are low growing dense plantings that keep the soil covered and fed with root exudates and leaves that compost in place: Think native sedges, nepta, and clovers!
Green Mulching Also referred to as “Chop and Drop” are trimmings of cut organic matter that are applied to the soil and are artfully placed to maintain garden aesthetics: Think deadhead cuttings of spent flower buds, trimmings of herbaceous ground covers, and removed weeds.
Leaf Mulching from trees is one of the highest quality mulch options we can use! When trees grow their leaves, they pull up nutrients from deep in the earth, and when we apply those dried leaves to the base of our trees, and to our garden beds, we return those nutrients to be used again in a closed loop ecosystem! In addition to promoting soil health, leaves provide vital habitat to a wide array of wildlife including pollinators who keep our agriculture systems working. Leaf mulch is beautiful and is one the most effective and sustainable ways to suppress weeds!
